The Most In-Demand VA Niches to Specialize in

Niching down will give you a lot more value in the eyes of clients as a Virtual Assistant. But what are the most in-demand VA niches that you can get hired for?

Which VA niche is the best for you? That’s what we’re talking about today.

Once you get your first few clients under your belt, you’re going to learn a few things about yourself and the way you work.

The most important of these are:

  • What you’re naturally good at
  • What you enjoy working on
  • Who you like doing those things for

Why are these the most important? They’re the main ways that you can narrow down what you’re doing and who you’re doing it for so that you can make your services more valuable.

What is a VA Niche?

Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines Niche as: “the situation in which a business’s products or services can succeed by being sold to a particular kind or group of people.”

This is basically saying that the more specific you can get in what you do and who you do it for, the more perfect it’s going to feel for your customer.

…and the more likely they are to buy it.

You are intentionally saying no to certain clients and tasks so that you can be the best there is at the handful that you do say yes to.

Here’s a few examples of VA Niches:

  • General Administrative VA niching down to Bookkeeping VA for Creatives
  • Marketing VA niching down to an Instagram Marketing Strategist for Photographers
  • Creative VA niching down to Brand Designer for Wellness Pros

Why should you choose a VA niche?

Simply put: Clients love experts.

They’re willing to shell out the extra cash to work with someone that does exactly what they want than someone who just hears what they want and says “oh yeah, I could do that!”.

Picture it: If you were a Health Coach looking for a new website, would you rather work with a “Creative VA” or a “Website Designer for Wellness Coaches”?

I bet I can guess which one. 😉

When you choose a Virtual Assistant niche, it’s also a lot easier to delegate and grow a team of subcontractors when you have a niche and a clear process for what you do. When every client follows the same journey from when they are onboarded to when they’re off-boarded, it’s easier to teach someone else how to do it.

Last but not least, it’s less for you to manage overall. If you are doing the same tasks all the time for all your clients, you won’t get bogged down in worrying about doing this for that person and that for the other.

So it turns out to be way less stressful for you.

Alrighty, now that you’re wildly convinced that VA niches are the bomb – Let’s talk about the ones that clients are hiring for the most.

The Best Virtual Assistant Niches

#1 Podcast Manager

Podcasts are hot right now. It feels like very business owner and their brother is launching a podcast.

It’s a lot of work to think of episode topics, find guests, record, edit, write show notes, and more. You know, all the things that go into managing a podcast. So Podcast Managers are really in demand right now as a result. You can support your clients by running the back-end of their podcast so that all they have to do is record!

#2 Website Designer

Whether or not some small business owners want to admit it: Every business needs a strong website.

Consider yourself a creative person? You can design beautiful websites for new or growing entrepreneurs. You don’t even have to know one line of code to do it either!

Website design is growing rapidly (as most on this list are!) so I recommend choosing a clear target client if you choose this VA niche. It’ll be another way to set yourself apart from your competition.

#3 Pinterest Manager

Every business that creates content on their website should be on Pinterest.

Pinterest is a very different platform than those that it’s often compared to, like Facebook and Instagram. So it requires a special understanding of how it works and the strategy that goes into getting your content seen on the platform.

A lot of business owners are so focused on Instagram that they don’t know how to use Pinterest, so they often outsource it to people that do.

#4 Digital Ads Manager

Do you nerd out on analyzing and tracking data? You’re gonna be obsessed with Digital Ads Management.

Businesses fork out thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars on digital marketing every month. So it’s critical that they have someone that knows exactly what they’re doing to make the most of that investment.

Learn the in’s and out’s of one digital marketing platform and become the go-to person for it. Clients are willing to invest in Ads Managers that can make the most of their money.

#5 Copywriter

Writing is an art form, but it’s also a sales tactic.

Online businesses, even more so than brick and mortar, need incredible copywriting to connect with their audience. This is because they can’t be there in person with them to foster that deep connection. So they’re always looking for sales-driven writers who can truly speak to a their target customer’s pain point and increase conversions.

#6 CRM Setups

CRM stands for Client Relationship Management.

These are softwares such as Dubsado, Honeybook, and 17hats. They allow solopreneurs and small teams to accept and process inquiries, send invoices, sign contracts and more. They become a digital hub for your entire business!

The catch with these is that they’re a lot of work to setup. So clients will hire CRM Specialists to come in and do all the leg-work for them so they can just hop in and hit the ground running with business tasks.

Choose one platform to specialize in, learn how it works and setup your clients for success!

#7 Sales Funnel Strategist

Sales funnels are automated systems that allow potential customers to purchase without the business owner taking any action to sell them their product or service.

They can generate tens of thousands of dollars in revenue for online business owners every month. So they’re extremely valuable!

Sales funnels have to be created in an extremely mindful and conversion-focused way to get them to work, though. If you can gain the understanding and experience with funnels to understand how to make them convert better, do it.

This is probably the rarest and most in-demand of all the VA niches at the time of writing this.

#8 Content Manager (blogging + repurposing)

Creating content consistently is way more work than it might seem from the outside.

That’s why clients are always looking for ways to repurpose things that they’ve already created to make the most of it. As a Content Manager, you can help business owners create and share blog content and cross-post it on all the other platforms.

You’ll create graphics based on their existing content, write captions and schedule it out to share on a platform like Later.

This is a very similar role as a Social Media Manager. It just depends on what specific tasks you focus on!

#9 Online Business Manager

Businesses often grow to a point where it’s too much for the business owner to handle.

Once there are multiple contractors on the team (graphic designer, pinterest manager, VA, and more!) it becomes a lot to handle. So business owners often hire an Online Business Manager to be a point of contact for all of the team members and to make sure that all the active projects are running smoothly.

This allows the business owner to have more time to serve their clients and focus on big picture projects, instead of worrying about day to day operations. Online Business Owners (or OBM’s) have to have strong time management, planning, and communication skills to manage different team dynamics.

#10 Graphic Designer

It’s not uncommon for businesses to need marketing materials created on a regular basis. Sometimes weekly or even daily!

When you’re a graphic designer, you focus solely on promotional materials and branding for the company. This can look like things such as logos, business cards, social media graphics, and more. You’re in charge of keeping the brand consistent in style and messaging!

If you’re a creative person that loves to design and make a beautiful instagram feed – This one’s for you!

Do you need a Virtual Assistant Niche?

Like I mentioned before, I don’t think it’s worth worrying about VA Niches when first launching your business.

It’s totally okay to focus on administrative tasks and simply take the work you can get until you find your stride (and client referrals!). This allows you to really learn what it is you enjoy and what you’re good at to know that you’ve want to do it more.

Over time though, I do recommend it!

It helps you hone in on your overall business goals, make more money, and focus on the work you love.

Who can argue with that?!
