What Is Content Repurposing?

So what is content repurposing?

Many people might assume that content repurposing is simply reposting a LinkedIn post and giving it new life by sharing it on Facebook. Or, taking a blog from the archives and giving it a few simple tweaks only to repost it again at a later date.

But the art of content repurposing actually goes much further than simply resharing old content.

To put it in simple terms, content repurposing is taking one content asset and using it to create something new.

You can repurpose by changing the content medium. For example, this could look like taking audio or video content and changing it to the written word.

Or, taking a carousel graphic and turning it into an Instagram Reel.

On the other hand, repurposing could look like taking shorter snippets from a longer piece of content to create smaller content assets.

For example, turning a longer video into shorter 30-second clips, or taking a long-form blog post and choosing the best quotes for shorter text-posts for Twitter.

One of the biggest benefits of content repurposing is that you’re able to  increase your visibility and consistently attract leads…without spending hours and hours coming up with content ideas each week.

Because we all know that online entrepreneurs NEED to be consistently publishing high-quality content in order to grow.

However, there are only so many hours in the day!

And that’s where content repurposing comes in.

Repurposing is the best way to maximize the mileage out of each and every content idea.

That way your creative energy is protected and your content strategy is sustainable for weeks, months, and YEARS to come.

What Kinds Of Tasks Would A Content Repurposing VA Do On The Daily?

In my particular content repurposing package, my team and I offer looks a little something like this:

My clients send over 4 pieces of high-value content for the month. This will usually be in the form of a Youtube video, podcast episode, or Instagram Video.

Then, my team works behind the scenes to create what I like to call content bundles.

Our clients receive four content bundles, one for each week, all made up of powerful blogs, newsletters, and social copy.

We even offer clients the option to have their content scheduled, pushed out and SEO optimized!

But that’s just my process.

Yours might look completely different and that’s A-OK!

You might be converting podcast clips into audiograms.

Or repurposing the audio from a Youtube video into a podcast.

Or maybe even creating graphics using quotes from your clients’ epic long-form content!

Those are just a few examples of things you might be doing on a daily basis when offering repurposing services as a VA.

Most importantly, your job will require you to think of creative new ways to maximize the lifespan of a powerful piece of content.

What Kind of Clients Do You Work With?

One of the best things about working in content repurposing is getting to be engaged with the interesting work your clients are doing!

In my experience – the people who benefit most from content repurposing are online entrepreneurs who already have long-form content built into their content strategy.

This might look like:

  • Podcasters
  • YouTubers
  • Coaches
  • Course Creators
  • Bloggers
  • Or other online thought leaders

These types of entrepreneurs often have an amazing content library to pull from.

They won’t have to do a single extra bit of work beyond sending you their video or audio files!

And because of this – they’ll be super eager to lighten their content creation load by hiring a repurposing expert.

In the age of social media, a business owner’s online presence has never been more important.

So offering content repurposing as a virtual assistant makes you that much more essential!

If this sounds like something you want to start offering to your current or future clients – I’m going to walk you through my 3-step Content Powerhouse Method.

This is the method I used to go from a VA struggling to find my niche to an in-demand content repurposing pro, and the one I teach in my signature program, The Content Powerhouse Academy.

Let’s get into it!

Step #1: Improve Your Content Skills

Ok, I know this might sound obvious – but in order to start offering content repurposing services, you need to gain some serious content skills.

Now is the time to figure out what part of content creation speaks to you.

What part of this important job are you most gifted in? What part of content creation or repurposing gets you feeling lit up and in the zone?

For me, I know my biggest value-add is my writing skills.

But for you, it might be video editing or graphic design.

Or maybe – it’s a combination of all three.

Whatever it is, stick to it and commit to becoming an expert in that craft.

When you know what your “special sauce” is as a content repurposing expert you become SO powerful.

Knowing your strengths allows you to create a business that leverages your specialized skills and serves your clients to the highest degree.

And once you’ve got those skills – put ‘em into practice and build a portfolio!

You want to have proof for your potential clients that you can and will deliver some amazing content for them.

You might try and take on a few passion projects or even work for a charity or non-profit helping them with their social presence.

Once you’re all skilled up , it’s time to move on to step 2!

Step #2: Package Your Content Repurposing Offer

The next step in the Content Powerhouse Method is to package your offer.

The first mistake I see content repurposing VAs doing is charging hourly rates for their work.

And I get it – it seems like the simplest way to sell your services.

In the case of administrative and technical VA work, hourly rates might make sense. It can be tough to figure out a package rate for answering emails or troubleshooting tech issues, because every client’s situation is going to vary!

But when you’re creating content for clients, hourly rates prevent you from increasing your income and scaling your business.

Think of it this way – when you are charging hourly as a content repurposing VA – the better you get at repurposing content, the less you get paid.

If writing blog posts takes three hours, but eventually you become so efficient you can pump out a bangin’ blog post in just an hour…your efficiency will be punished.

And that just doesn’t add up!

When you level up your content skills and step into your expertise, you want your bank account to reflect that.

Rather than charging for your time, you want to charge for the value you’re creating for your clients.

Develop a package based on your content deliverables rather than selling a set number of hours.

This will make sure that improving your systems and efficiency when creating content for clients actually pays off.

And another pro tip for you…

Don’t just lump in your content repurposing offer with a dozen other packages on your website or services guide.

I know that you’re probably multi-talented and want to help your clients whatever way you can.

But marketing a bunch of different packages and options to your potential customers is not going to help you sign more clients. In fact, it’s going to do the opposite.

When buyers have too many options, they experience analysis paralysis.

Which ultimately results in you losing the sale!

So keep your packages limited.

The sweet spot is usually 1-3 offers that are carefully packaged with your ideal client in mind.

So that when they arrive at your site and see your offer…it’s a no-brainer for them to buy!

Step #3: Uplevel Your Online Presence

Once you’ve gone through all the effort of honing your repurposing skills and packaging some amazing offers, you need to make sure you’ve got your own content under control.

I mean it.

If you’re going to market yourself as a virtual assistant who specializes in content repurposing – your own content has to reflect that.

Imagine if someone is interested in working with you. But when they arrive at your profile or website it’s slapped together, out of date, or even worse…EMPTY!!

I’ve seen it happen before, so don’t let this be you.

Make it easy for your clients to trust you with their content by showing up and leading by example.

Your own profile is the best place to showcase your skills.

Think of it as a portfolio!

Make sure that your work shows the level of consistency and quality you can offer your clients.

And I get it…

It can be easy to get so focused on delivering high-quality client content that we completely neglect our own.

But I am here to tell you – if you want to be taken seriously as a content repurposing VA you need to make your own content a priority.

Block some time off in your schedule.

Set some weekly or monthly goals.

Hey – you could even go back and repurpose something you’ve created already!

Whatever it is, commit to your own online presence so that when your potential clients see your work they want what you’ve got going on.

I actually teach this 3 step process in depth in my signature course, The Content Powerhouse Academy.

I walk you through every step of the way to becoming a repurposing pro!

So if you’re ready to dive deeper into the skills, strategies and systems needed to specialize in this in-demand, profitable niche – get on the waitlist for the next round here.

Learning these skills has been nothing short of life-changing for my service business, and I’d love to share how you can leverage them to attract an amazing roster of clients!
