How Can an OBM Help Your Biz? Here Are 6 Things We’ll Do in Our First 90 Days Together!

You’re a passionate entrepreneur who started your business with big dreams and endless creativity. Your ideas? Brilliant. Your impact? Growing. But behind the scenes, things might be getting a little… interesting (and not in a good way). Your inbox is overflowing, your team seems scattered, and you’re not quite sure if all those marketing efforts are actually paying off.

You’re in good company, my friend!

In my time as an Online Business Manager (OBM), I’ve noticed these are all things every business is struggling with. And it’s why in our first 90 days together, we’ll work on a game plan to fix them.

If you’ve ever wondered, “How can an OBM help my business, really?” keep reading! I’m pulling back the curtain and showing you the 90-day action plan I implement with nearly all of my clients!

OBM Support Task #1: Analyzing Your Email List

A healthy email list isn’t just about numbers — it’s about connection and conversion. And unengaged subscribers, outdated sequences, and messy segments can damage that relationship without you even realizing it.

When I work with clients, we often find that a thorough clean-up can greatly improve deliverability and engagement rates, even if the total subscriber count goes down. Remember, it’s better to have 1,000 engaged subscribers than 10,000 who never open your emails!

From there, we can brainstorm ways to build that list back up with active, engaged subscribers.

OBM Support Task #2: Updating Team Onboarding

Team management is often something that gets overlooked in the excitement of growth. As your business evolves, your team’s roles and responsibilities naturally shift too. But when was the last time you updated those contracts or your onboarding process to reflect these changes?

I often see team members performing tasks way beyond their original scope, or that new tools and processes haven’t been properly documented in their agreements. Updating these contracts isn’t just about protection, though. It’s about creating clarity and setting everyone up for success!

OBM Support Task #3: Project Management Deep Dive

Your project management system should be your business’s command center, but it often gets used like a junk drawer or catch-all for anything and everything in a business. Ooof.

During our first 90 days together, I work with clients to fix this, because the truth is your PM system is vital to keep your business from feeling chaotic (for you and your team). That includes tasks like:

  • Clearing up tasks that were completed months ago but never closed out
  • Taking care of action items floating in the ether without clear ownership
  • Creating a system everyone can use to unify everyone’s efforts, rather than team members creating their own (this can cause problems down the line when you need to hire someone new or your team member is out sick!)

It’s all about creating a reliable engine that powers your business forward so you don’t have to be directly involved in every decision.

OBM Support Task #4: Creating SOPs to be Your Operations Manual

Your business processes are constantly evolving, and so are your SOPs. I often find outdated SOPs that no longer reflect current practices, or critical processes that exist only in someone’s head. Using tools like Tango can make creating and updating SOPs less overwhelming, encouraging your team to use them more consistently.

If you don’t have SOPs, this will be one of the first things we’ll tackle together. It may feel daunting at first, but it will be SO worth it down the line!

OBM Support Task #5: Analyzing the Backend Data

Your business is constantly telling you what’s working and what isn’t through data and metrics. Are you listening? Many creative entrepreneurs make decisions based on feelings rather than facts (no shame — we’re all guilty).

But setting up proper data tracking helps you:

  • Understand which products or services are truly profitable
  • Identify where your team might be struggling
  • Spot trends before they become problems
  • Make confident decisions about where to invest your resources

Essentially, keeping track of your metrics means you’re keeping a finger on the pulse of your business and won’t be caught by surprise when decisions need to be made.

OBM Support Task #6: Assess Marketing Efforts Across Platforms

Once we have the data review, we’ll analyze our content. Are people reading your emails? Is your podcast growing in listenership? From there, we’ll decide if changes need to be implemented to improve performance.

This review often reveals surprising insights about where you should focus your energy — and, more importantly, where you might be wasting it.
